Materiais saudáveis para o bem-estar humano pela MaterialDriven
Estamos cada vez mais conscientes do impacto que os materiais têm no nosso ambiente, tendo o cuidado de compreender fatores-chave como a pegada de carbono, a reciclabilidade e a energia incorporada, antes de os mesmos serem selecionados e especificados para os projetos. No entanto, se formos mais além, devemos também empenhar-nos para melhorar o impacto que estes materiais têm na saúde e no bem-estar humanos. A prática de incorporar e institucionalizar os potenciais impactos na saúde humana dos produtos de construção na conceção arquitetónica ainda não se tornou uma prática comum.
De uma forma geral, arquitetos, projetistas, construtores e empreiteiros ainda não estão familiarizados com a constituição e a composição química dos materiais e os seus efeitos na nossa saúde. Ao darmos ferramentas aos profissionais para compreenderem melhor os materiais e produtos que utilizam, podemos reduzir os impactos na saúde de todos os envolvidos no processo: aqueles que residem nos edifícios, aqueles que constroem os edifícios, os trabalhadores que fabricam os materiais e aqueles que reutilizam e eliminam os materiais.
Normalmente, a sociedade passa a maior parte do dia em espaços interiores, onde a concentração de poluentes é duas a cinco vezes superior aos níveis encontrados ao ar livre, segundo a Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Por conseguinte, provocar uma mudança no setor da arquitetura e da construção para a utilização de materiais menos tóxicos é essencial para garantir a saúde das gerações futuras. Ao incorporarmos materiais que melhoram a qualidade do ar, que não têm produtos químicos proibidos, ou que introduzem elementos naturais nas nossas casas, podemos transformar radicalmente os nossos espaços para que sejam seguros e saudáveis.
A curadoria da MaterialDriven tenta explorar o que torna um material saudável, e apresenta os materiais saudáveis disponíveis comercialmente, bem como os que ainda estão em desenvolvimento, ao mesmo tempo que divulga os produtos químicos e componentes que devem ser evitados. Apresentaremos também a gama de certificações e rótulos que ajudam os arquitetos, projetistas e construtores a fazer escolhas melhores e mais saudáveis quando especificam materiais para os seus projetos.
